Reading Notes (PDE Ramayana, Part B)
Part B- I will be doing C later this week and D as extra credit
The beginning of the story starts with Rama's brother Bharata who was recently proclaimed the throne. His mother had sent out for him to be brought back to the kingdom, and he arrived and found out his father had died and his brother had been exiled. He said he would not get on the throne and would have Rama returned.
The next part describes how Bharata has to perform the funeral rites for his father before he can go find Rama, he doesn't want to do this because he is grieving.
Bharata finds Rama in the jungle and asks him to come back to the kingdom, but Rama says he can't go because he made a promise to his father that he would attend to the sire, and he says he would rather be a dead man than to commit those evil doing. Since it is their fathers wishes Bharata decides he will stay with Rama until he can return to the kingdom in 14 years.
Bharata gives Rama gold sandals and says to keep them, but Rama gives them back and asks him to use them to guard the throne for him till he returns.
The next story was about Vidraha. Rama and Lakshmana take on the demon in the forrest and he can't be killed by swords. They shot arrows at him, and eventually let him pick them up and they brake his arms off and bury him into the ground. Before they killed him he told them that he was cursed, and this will finally end his curse and send him to heaven.
A sage Agastya gave Rama plenty of weapons, and asked him to stay but Rama wants to go deeper in the forrest.
Shurpanka the sister or Ravana came to Rama and tried to seduce him as a young beautiful women, but Rama said no and told her to try his brother instead because of Sita.
She goes back and tells the group what hapens and Lakshmana laughs at her. She tells Khara instead and he decides to gather an army and go after Rama to kill him.
Rama tells Lakshmana to take Sita to the cave while he faces his foe. The whole army comes at him and Rama takes them all on and kills Khara with his bow.
Ravana is told what has happened and is enraged.
Ravana sends Maricha out into the forrest to spy on them to steal Sita. He goes through the forrest disguised as a deer.
The trick works and Sita sees the deer and tells Rama he wants him to get it for her. Lakshmana is worried what will happen next.
Ravana sneaks up on Sita and steals her when Rama and Lakshmana are away.
Jatayu the Bird God fought Ravana but lost. However it allowed the gods to feel bad for Sita and now they are on her side.
Ravana tried to seduce Sita but this did not work she still has Rama in her heart.
