Introduction to Philip a Sports Management Major

Hi I am Philip and this is my introduction for Indian Epics!

Okay, so first of all I am a senior Sports Management major here at the University of Oklahoma. I am from Fort Worth Texas, but I was originally born in Munich Germany. My dad works on military aircrafts so when I was 3 years old we moved to Fort Worth. In my free time I like to play NBA 2k, play golf with my friends, and also play or watch basketball. I currently work a lot with OU Fit and Rec, and I have two positions there maintenance crew at the Huff and Intramural Supervisor.

So one of the most important things about me is my dog. I have a black lab mix named Beau, and he is my best friend. Beau is one of the most loyal, smart, and friendly dogs I have ever met so he is the perfect companion. His favorite thing is to play fetch, and I can't even count how many hours during the original COVID lockdown we played fetch when I had no one else to hang out with. Beau is around a year old now, last summer I got him at an animal shelter in Norman when he was just a puppy.

-a photograph my dad took of Beau-

My ultimate goal is to work for the Dallas Mavericks, and that's why I went down the sports management route. I could see myself really enjoying to work there and never dreading to go into work. Sports is a hot commodity today and there is so much money involved in it, so it is a really good industry to get involved with.

Thanks for listening a bit about myself and I hope gave a solid idea of what I am about.

  1. Hey Philip! It is really cool to see that you have so much passion for your dog. I have a dog as well and he is really a funny dude. I play with him all the time because he never lost this puppy-like rambunctiousness. Playing fetch with a dog seems like a boring task when you do not own a dog, oddly enough after getting one though, seeing my dog so happy to bring a stick back to me after I throw it is like a little every day reward.

  2. Oh, look at that wonderful dog, Philip: he's beautiful! And you are not alone in your sports interests... did you see the RBA Ramayana Basketball Association Storybook from last semester? Maybe you will want to do something like that. He did such a fantastic job of some detailed basketball research (the Internet is perfect for that), and blending those sports details with tons of details from the epic story too: RBA Storybook link. So you might find some way to bring sports into your stories for class... or maybe Beau could take a starring role in a dog-story adventure: whatever your imagination can dream up! :-)

  3. Hi Philip! Your dog is SO cute! I think my dogs totally understand the whole quarantine-fetch situation! We recently got a chocolate lab, and she LOVES playing fetch. I don’t know very much about basketball, maybe it’s something I should learn more about, but it’s so interesting to see people who are so passionate about working with the sport, with any sport really! I really hope you continue to do well and ultimately get to achieve your goal of working for the Dallas Mavericks!

  4. Phillip, it was nice to read about your dog and your hobbies! I am also into fitness and sports and am happy to see your excitement for this field. I really wish you the best in terms of getting your dream job with the Dallas Mavericks! Also, I have tons of friends in the DFW area and am done there quite a bit visiting them! Its a really nice place :)

  5. Hi Phillip, that is so cool that you were born in Germany! I have only been there once, and it was so beautiful, especially when I was just walking down the street and appreciating all the small shops and historical buildings! And your dog is so beautiful; that photograph your dad took of him is spectacular. Sports IS a hot commodity these days; best of luck with your major and I look forward to reading your stories!

  6. Hey Philip,
Nice to meet you! It is very cool that you were born in Germany and that you want to work for the Dallas Mavericks. I love watching Luka Doncic he’s the real deal, and I was a big fan of Dirk while he was playing. I’m a big fan of 2k as well I play it a lot in my free time. I plan on getting NBA 2K21 when the PlayStation 5 comes out. If you ever want to play you should add me @WezWezz on PlayStation and Xbox.

  7. Hey Philip!

This was probably one of the most interesting introduction's I read. Indeed, sports is the route to take these days. A lot of money is at play through that industry, and like you said, you would most likely love going into work! There isn't anything worse than doing something you really aren't inclined to do. Furthermore, that is so awesome being born in Germany. I'm sure you're a red devil fan and super excited from this past Champions League season.

  8. Hi Philip! Nice to meet you! That is cool that you want to work for the Mavericks! I am a pre-med major, but I also love sports, so I also could see myself pursuing sports medicine so I could work with athletes and professional teams! Your dog Beau looks so fun to play with! I myself have a German Shepherd. Good luck this semester!

  9. Hello Phillip,
Having a companion during quarantine would definitely help the time go by faster, and you're lucky you have Beau to keep you company. I wonder what the thing you miss most about Germany is (or if you even miss anything at all!). I've never been to Europe, but I hope to have the opportunity to visit someday. Excited to read your future stories!

  10. Hi Phillip! I think it's really cool that you are a sports management major. I really enjoy sports so I can see what you mean when you feel like you won't have to dread going in to work everyday. Is basketball your favorite sport? It's really sweet that your dog is your best friend. I recently got a puppy and she is about 7 months old now. Her name is Bean and she is definitely a great companion already! I can't wait to read your stories this semester!!

  11. Hey Philip,
My family has three labs at home, so I can completely understand being obsessed with your pup! 'My' dog is a black lab mix and a rescue as well, and his name is Tank. He is very docile and calm for a lab, but he is also incredibly loyal and will not leave your side. Our other dogs love to swim and fetch, but mine is kind of weird. That is so awesome that you got your pup from a shelter!! It is one of the best things that you can do!
    Sincerely,
    Rachel

  12. Philip, I have always been so interested in sports management because I am from Dallas and you know how us Texans are about our sports! When I read that your dream is to work for the Dallas Mavericks I thought about how cool it would be to have Mark Cuban as your boss. I watch a lot of Shark Tank and am a huge fan of him and his strategies, so I think your aspirations are super admirable. Cute dog! I've been thinking about rescuing a pup for the longest time and I think I'm going to do it soon.

  13. Hi Philip,
Sports Management was always an interesting major from me. I also come from the Price Business of College, and Sports Management always caught my eye. I also enjoy basketball and it's nice to see someone pursue a major that relates to their interest. I hope that you are able to get into the career that you want. I look forward to reading your stories in this class. P.S., the Thunder are the best basketball team.

  14. Hey Philip! It is so nice to meet you! I just came from one of your stories so I am glad to put a biography to the author! I think sports management is such a cool path to go down, and I am super interested to see where that takes you! My boyfriend is very interested in sports journalism, but I wonder if he would be interested in something like what you are doing. Best of luck to you with getting to work for the Mav's!

  15. Hi, Philip,
I think your dog is super cool! I have a dog too, from a shelter in Ada. My mom lives in Germany, she moved there a few years ago and I had a lot of fun when I got to visit. I hope your dream of working for the Mavericks comes true!

  16. Hi Philip,
Sports management is a great management. I grew up my whole life playing sports and I have no idea what I would do without sports. Your dog looks so massive and I bet he is so cuddly as well. I think everyone can relate about the dog part where you said you played fetch countless hours. I think that was the only positive about covid.
